I am pro-life, pro-family, and believe that America is still
"one nation under God." I also believe that we
don't have a budget problem in Mississippi, we have spending
problem. That's why I'm running for State Senate District
20.
A lifelong Republican, I am currently a
lobbyist and live in Castlewoods with my wife of 24 years,
Courtney, and our two children, Benton and Blakeley, who attend
public schools. We are members of Pinelake Baptist Church.

Here are my views on several important issues facing our
state: |
|
|
- I
support fully funding public education
- I
oppose ANY new taxes
- I
support traditional family values
- I
support enforcing Mississippi's immigration laws.
- I
support quality economic development
- I
support the right to bear arms.

Public
Education and Quality Teachers
I am the only candidate running for this office that has
children in public school. My mother was a public
school teacher, as well, so I am a true advocate of public
education. Regardless of these connections, however,
we all pay for public education through our taxes and
we all have a stake in its success.
When elected, I will propose a new
bill that will allow teachers to return to work after
retiring. Quality teachers would be rehired at the
salary of a first-year teacher. The retirement benefit
for the teacher would be added to the lesser salary, giving
the teacher a nice pay increase. Schools would benefit
by having a more experienced teacher in the classroom and by
not paying retirement benefits on the lesser salary.
It is a win-win situation.
Taxes
and, in Particular, the Cigarette Tax
As stated earlier, I oppose ANY new taxes. The only
way I would be open to an increase in the cigarette tax is
if it is part of an overall package that provides a
significant tax cut for all Mississippians.
I fully support Governor Barbour's
goal of conducting a comprehensive study of the tax code so
that when we cut taxes, we do it fairly and with the best
interest of all Mississippians in mind. |

I can hit the ground running. Having worked in the
Capitol for the last seven years as a lobbyist, I know all
the State Senators. I know the process. I know
how to get things done with diplomacy and tact. And I
have a passion for protecting the values we Mississippians
hold dear: faith, family and freedom.
